Enlightened Tutor started as a group of four college buddies from Princeton University, who bonded over their shared love for ancient philosophy and modern symphonic rock. The band members – lead vocalist and guitarist Cleo, bassist Marcus, keyboardist Socrates, and drummer Aristotle – were all majoring in philosophy. Unfulfilled by the conventional academic life, they sought an expressive outlet that combined their passion for critical thought with their love for music. Thus, Enlightened Tutor was born. The band’s name, Enlightened Tutor, draws inspiration from the philosophical concept of enlightenment and the role of a tutor in imparting wisdom, reflecting their drive to share thought-provoking messages through their music.
