Backstory:
Frilly Circuit is an innovative band formed in 2012, initially made up of a trio of friends from high school — lead vocalist and keyboardist Melinda “Mel” Carter, bassist Ryan “Ry” Baxter, and drummer Jake “JD” Daniels. They were known for their quirky style and DIY sound-making devices, often tinkering and modifying instruments for a unique vibe. Inspired by Mel’s electrician father’s workshop, the band derived their name from it, the ‘Frilly Circuit’, symbolizing their intricate and experimental approach to music.
The band started by playing local gigs in their hometown of Austin, Texas, and soon gathered a strong local following. Their big break came in 2015 when they caught the attention of indie record label ‘Sonic Fizz’, that immediately signed them. Since then, they’ve been on several national tours, released four albums, and earned critical acclaim for their unique sound and energetic performances.
