Backstory:
Grubby Gate was born in the dingy basements and shadowy corners of New York City in 2009 when four childhood friends decided to use their shared passion for music to escape the monotony of their nine-to-five jobs. The band includes Dave “Scruff” Thompson on vocals and guitar, Jimmy “Grub” DeCosta on bass, Brian “Gate” Peterson on drums, and Terry “Turtle” Johnson on keys. The band started by playing in local bars, and their unique sound soon caught the attention of indie music lovers across the city. Their combination of raw talent and gritty determination quickly made Grubby Gate one of the most talked-about underground bands in New York City.
In 2011, they released their self-titled debut album that received rave reviews from critics. This catapulted them into the indie music scene on a national level. Their second album, “Backyard Lullabies,” was released two years later and marked a turning point in their career, as they started getting invites to perform at major music festivals around the country. Grubby Gate’s sound is an amalgamation of their life experiences, and their music has always been their way of communicating with the world.
