The story

Hearty Limitation formed in the autumn of 2017 when four lifelong friends from Manchester, England, found themselves all working in different industries but sharing a longing to create something together. After years of late-night jam sessions in drummer Jamie’s basement, their cathartic blend of personal confessions and raw instrumentation started to draw attention from their local music scene. The name ‘Hearty Limitation’ was inspired by a quote from their philosophy professor: “Sometimes the strongest hearts are shaped by their limits.”

Bound by a love for storytelling and a mutual respect for each other’s musical quirks, the band set out to carve their own path. Their emotional honesty and bold, experimental sound quickly became their signature, and soon they were playing packed gigs, each performance a testament to turning vulnerabilities into strengths.

Indie Rock with Post-Punk and Folk influences

Paper Bridges

Verse
C G Am F
I built a bridge from folded dreams,
C G F
Crossing doubts in quiet streams.
C G Am F
Every step, a paper plan held tight,
C G F
Scared of currents in the night.

C G Am F
You waded in with hands outstretched,
C G F
Anchoring words I never guessed.
C G Am F
Over water, underneath the skin,
C G F
I learned to lose, so I could begin.

Chorus
Am G F C
Oh, we burn, but not from fire we choose,
Am G F
Oh, we yearn, for the limits we outgrew.
C G Am F
Paper bridges, trembling but true,
C G F
Hold me up when I’m falling through.

Verse
C G Am F
Stitches in the seams of what I hide,
C G F
Stories leak from the other side.
C G Am F
Every word, a stepping stone above,
C G F
Every limit, a shape of love.

Chorus
Am G F C
Oh, we burn, but not from fire we choose,
Am G F
Oh, we yearn, for the limits we outgrew.
C G Am F
Paper bridges, trembling but true,
C G F
Hold me up when I’m falling through.

Outro
C G Am F
Paper bridges, paper hearts,
C G F
Breaking down, making art.

Biggest fan

Their favorite fan is Imogen Blake, an aspiring poet from Bristol who has attended every Hearty Limitation gig within a hundred miles since 2019. Imogen says: “Hearty Limitation aren’t just a band to me—they’re the soundtrack to every hard-earned triumph and lesson I’ve learned in my twenties. Their honesty and energy pulled me through heartbreak and gave me hope during lockdowns. When I told them after a show that ‘Paper Bridges’ inspired my own writing, they took ten minutes just to talk with me about poetry and music. No band has ever made me feel so seen.”
