Backstory:
Ill-Informed Emperor was born from the collective frustration and artistic hunger of four college friends — lead singer Nathan “Nate” Jacobs, drummer Hannah “Hank” Roberts, bassist Samuel “Sam” Willis, and guitarist Emily “Em” Pierce. The quartet was united in their disenchantment with the prevailing music scene, believing it to be shallow and lacking in substance and nuance. They found solace in jamming in their shared dorm room, their creative juices flowing in the small hours of the night.
After graduating, the friends moved to a loft in New York City where they continued their passionate pursuit of music. Their unique approach to songwriting gradually started to gain attention, their raw, thought-provoking lyrics resonating with audiences tired of the same old pop melodies. The name ‘Ill-Informed Emperor’, they explained, was a humorous jab at the societal pressures and ignorance that ruled their lives, just like a misguiding ruler.
