Backstory:
Impractical Insect was formed in the year 2000, in the bustling city of New York, by childhood friends Tom McCarley (vocals and guitar), Jax Dillinger (bass), and Jonas Monroe (drums). The trio bonded over their shared love for outlandish, quirky music and their mutual fascination with the insect world. The name of the band, Impractical Insect, was inspired by an incident during their early jamming days when a large, clumsy beetle landed on Tom’s guitar, causing an unexpected strumming pattern that led to a breakthrough in their songwriting process.

The band’s journey to fame was not smooth or predictable, much like the flight pattern of the insect they derived their name from. Despite numerous setbacks, they remained resilient, releasing their underground debut album, “Under the Rock,” in 2004. Their music, filled with surreal metaphors and complex, abstract themes, quickly gained a cult following that loved the band’s unique artistry and strange charm.
