Backstory:
Founded in the eclectic suburbs of Austin, Texas in 2007, ‘Vapid Definition’ was born from a group of high school friends who discovered a shared love for music and a mutual distaste for superficiality. The band members – Jeremy “Jem” Holt on lead vocals, David “Davey” Martinez on the guitar, Richard “Rich” Thomas on the drums, and Alice “Ali” Harper on the bass – combined their talent, passion, and raw emotion to create a unique sound that both critiques and celebrates the superficial world they grew up in.
The band’s name, ‘Vapid Definition,’ is a tongue-in-cheek statement of their mission: to redefine what is often dismissed as ‘vapid’ or lacking depth, from pop culture to personal relationships. Through their music, they seek to challenge the idea that anything that’s popular or mainstream is automatically shallow, proving that even the most seemingly superficial topics can hold profound meaning.

Title:
“Plastic Reality”
Full Song Lyrics:
Verse 1: [Am] Another plastic smile, [G] another perfect pose,
[Dm] We’re living in a world that everybody [Am] knows.
[Am] We’re chasing after dreams, [G] made of smoke and light,
[Dm] Lost in our own mirror, in the [Am] middle of the night.
Chorus: [F] But isn’t it ironic, [G] in this plastic reality,
[Am] The things we dismiss as vapid, [G] hold our sanity.
[F] We’re dancing with the shadows, [G] in a world that’s make-believe,
[Am] Yet, we find the truth, [G] in the lies we weave.
Verse 2: [Am] We paint a pretty picture, [G] with filters and the frames,
[Dm] But at the end of the day, we’re all [Am] playing the same game.
[Am] We hide behind our screens, [G] thinking we’re so wise,
[Dm] But the real wisdom is in [Am] seeing through the lies.
Chorus: [F] Life can be so ironic, [G] in this plastic reality,
[Am] Where the things we call vapid, [G] give us clarity.
[F] Though we’re just chasing shadows, [G] in a world that’s make-believe,
[Am] We find ourselves, [G] in the stories we weave.
Band’s Favorite Fan:
Our favorite fan is Lena Rodriguez, a 16-year-old high school student from San Antonio, Texas. Lena found our music during a challenging time in her life. She says, “Vapid Definition is more than a band to me. They don’t just make music; they create art and express emotions in a way that’s raw and real. Their song ‘Plastic Reality’ gave me a fresh perspective on my life. It made me see the beauty in the mundane and the depth in what people dismiss as shallow. Their music is a reminder that the world is complex and that we can find meaning in unexpected places. They’re undoubtedly my favorite band.”
