Meek Essay is a band that had its humble beginnings in the back alleys of San Francisco, California, in 2011. Originally, they were just a group of childhood friends with a common love for music. The founding members, Roger Smith (vocals and guitar), Kenny Peterson (drums), and Lisa Johnson (bass guitar and backing vocals), met in high school and began playing music together as a way to pass the time. Backstory:
Born and raised in the small town of Eureka, California, Nervous Curve is a four-piece band composed of childhood friends. Their lead vocalist, Danny Walker, guitarist Jake Burton, bassist Max Wallis, and drummer Alex Holden were schoolmates who discovered their shared passion for music during a high school talent show where they performed as a group for the first time. Post high school, they initially parted ways and pursued different paths. However, after a few years, they reunited and decided to form the band Nervous Curve, dedicated to their shared love for music.

Their journey hasn’t been easy. Like a nervous curve on the road, their path was filled with many ups and downs, unexpected turns, and stumbling blocks. They started by performing in small local venues and slowly built a reputation through word-of-mouth. The band features four members – lead vocalist and guitarist, James ‘Jimmy’ DeRosa, bassist, Zoe ‘Z’ Malone, drummer, Chris ‘CJ’ Johnson, and keyboardist, Elliot ‘Eli’ Klein. Their paths crossed at a local open mic night, and they quickly realized they shared a passion for music that had a political undertone – music that could inspire change. Naming themselves “Everlasting Democrat” was an ode to their belief in the democratic ethos of equality, liberty, and justice for all.

The band gained local popularity with their thought-provoking lyrics and high-energy performances, leading to their breakthrough in 2011 with the release of their debut album “Liberty’s Melody.” Their unique fusion of genres and the unconventional way of addressing socio-political issues struck a chord with a wide audience, turning Everlasting Democrat from a local sensation into a nationally-recognized band.

The band comprises of lead vocalist Alex Stirling, drummer Sam Pope, bassist Connor Brash, and guitarist Rory Summers. All four members met while serving their time in a minimum-security prison for various petty crimes. They realized that their common interest in music could be a form of rehabilitation and a potential way to change their paths. As they began creating music, they found an unexpected camaraderie and an outlet for their frustrations and desires. After serving their respective sentences, they vowed to continue Criminal List outside the prison walls, hoping to share their transformative experience with others.
