Backstory:
Modest Letter was formed in the quaint, artistic city of Asheville, North Carolina. High school friends George Baxter (lead vocals, guitar), Alex Fletcher (bass) and Emily Harrison (drums) initially gathered to play music for fun after school, drawing inspiration from the folk music that was so prevalent in their hometown. What began as a pastime gradually turned into a serious endeavor when they started writing music that told stories of their small-town experiences. Baxter’s expressive lyrics, combined with Fletcher and Harrison’s rhythm section, created a unique sound that captivated their listeners. The band gained popularity performing in local bars and coffee shops, and soon they were playing at music festivals throughout the Southeast.

Song Title:
“Under the Willow Tree”
Full Song Lyrics:
Verse 1
[G] Under the willow tree, [Em] we used to sit and dream, [C] young hearts wild and free, like a [D] river streaming.
[G] You held my trembling hand, [Em] whispered your sweet plans, [C] in the shadows we’d stand, under the [D] moonbeaming.
Chorus:
[G] Oh, under the willow tree, [C] our love was poetry,
[Em] Now it’s a memory, [D] yet I keep dreaming.
[G] Under the willow tree, [C] we made a history,
[Em] You’re still a mystery, my heart’s [D] still screaming.
Verse 2:
[G] Leaves have started to fall, [Em] echo of your call, [C] silent house, empty hall, [D] where’s the meaning.
[G] Your laughter resonates, [Em] in the quiet waits, [C] under the willow tree, I’m [D] still leaning.
(Repeat Chorus)
