Backstory:
Dismal Tree blossomed on a gloomy London afternoon in a café, where singer-songwriter Tristan Hall met multi-instrumentalists Leah Thompson and Ethan Smith. All three, feeling dreadfully disconnected from their corporate jobs, were looking to channel their creative energy into something more meaningful. They began meeting after work at a studio in Soho, pouring out their collective disenchantment into raw, emotive melodies. Thus, Dismal Tree, named after a gnarled old oak they could see from the studio window, took root in 2008.

Title:
“Silhouettes on the Moon”
Full song lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[A] Walking through the [G] empty night,
[D] Shadows dancing [Em] in the midnight light.
[A] Words unspoken, [G] dreams unwoken,
[D] We’re silhouettes [Em] on the moon tonight.
(Chorus)
[C] Can you hear the [G] echoes of our laughter,
[D] Lost in the [Em] whispers of the night?
[C] We are shadows cast by [G] starlight,
[D] We’re the [A] silhouettes on the moon tonight.
(Verse 2)
[A] Trapped in the [G] echoes of time,
[D] You’re a melody [Em] in an endless rhyme.
[A] Echoes of love, [G] whispers of goodbye,
[D] We’re frost-kissed [Em] memories floating high.
(Chorus)
[C] Can you hear the [G] echoes of our laughter,
[D] Lost in the [Em] whispers of the night?
[C] We are shadows cast by [G] starlight,
[D] We’re the [A] silhouettes on the moon tonight.
(Bridge)
[A] We’re just [D] specks of dust in the [G] cosmic abyss,
[C] But I’ll find you [Em] in our [D] shared silence.
(Chorus)
[C] Can you hear the [G] echoes of our laughter,
[D] Lost in the [Em] whispers of the night?
[C] We are shadows cast by [G] starlight,
[D] We’re the [A] silhouettes on the moon tonight.
(Outro)
[A] So here’s to [G] us, lost in space,
[D] We’re silhouettes [Em] on the moon’s face.
[A] As dawn breaks [G] and shadows fade,
[D] We’ll remain [Em] silhouettes on the moon’s face.
Bands Favorite Fan:
Dismal Tree’s favorite fan is a young man named Oliver. Oliver stumbled upon them in a small venue gig in 2011 and was immediately entranced by their raw, emotional melodies and the melancholic undertones of their lyrics. He describes his connection to Dismal Tree as an unexplainable magnetism, and claims their music has been a comforting companion through different phases of his life. He says, “Their music is a mirror to my life’s ups and downs, a balm for my lonely nights. They don’t just play songs, they narrate stories, which feel like my own. Every chord they strum resonates with a piece of my soul. For me, Dismal Tree is not just a band, it’s a refuge.”
