Obese Branch was founded in Austin, Texas, in 2014 by high school friends Valentina “Vale” Garcia (vocals, guitar), Timothy “Tim” Vernon (drums), and Kai Cheng (bass). The trio bonded over their deep love for music and a shared philosophy that it should not be contained by genre or convention. They honed their skills and developed a unique sound, performing at local eateries, small gatherings, and house parties, gradually gaining a solid following. By 2016, they had saved enough money to record their first album independently. Their popularity exploded after a video of their live performance at a local festival went viral.
