Backstory:
The band “Competent Training” was born out of the college dorm room of its founding members, lead singer and guitarist Jeremy Hitchens and drummer Mark Stevens. Long nights spent jamming and improvising music led to the creation of an experimental, innovative sound that would soon become their signature style. The duo later recruited keyboard player and vocalist Sandra Lopez from the college choir, adding a soulful touch to their already eclectic mix. After several local gigs and winning the college music festival, they graduated not just from college but into the world of professional music.
Genre:
Competent Training’s style can be best described as an amalgamation of Pop Punk and Indie Rock, with a touch of electronica. They are known for their catchy, upbeat, and anthemic tunes, but also for their introspective, thoughtful lyrics that speak to the youth and their struggles.
Title:
“One Step, One Breath”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Am (add9)
Under the neon lights, we find our truth,
F (add9)
Dancing through the troubles of our youth.
C (add9)
In every beat and rhythm, we find our way,
G (add9)
To the dawn from the darkness of the day.
(Chorus)
Am (add9)
One step, one breath, that’s all we need,
F (add9)
One dance, one song, to feel free indeed.
C (add9)
In every step and every breath,
G (add9)
We find courage to face even death.
(Verse 2)
Am (add9)
We don’t need a map, we just need to feel,
F (add9)
The rhythm and the music, oh so real.
C (add9)
Guided by the stars and the city lights,
G (add9)
We’ll find our way through the darkest nights.
(Chorus)
Am (add9)
One step, one breath, that’s all it takes,
F (add9)
One leap, one touch, to erase the mistakes.
C (add9)
In every step and every breath,
G (add9)
We find strength to face even death.
