Disloyal Century

Backstory:
Disloyal Century was formed in the hard-knock neighborhoods of New Jersey in 2008. Childhood friends, lead vocalist and guitarist Jake Russo, drummer Ben Smith, and bassist Mike Lowell found solace and escape in music during their troubled teenage years. Coming from backgrounds of broken homes and uncertain futures, they bonded over their shared experiences and their love for music. The name ‘Disloyal Century’ reflects the band’s collective belief that the society they were born into was not loyal to them, thus they felt that they owed no loyalty to it in return.

Drawn together by their shared disillusionment and their desire to express their unique perspective through music, Disloyal Century began to rehearse in Mike’s garage, honing their sound until they felt ready to share it with the world. In 2011, they released their first EP, which gained them a local following and allowed them to play in ever-growing venues.

“Concrete Skies”

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[E] Under the concrete skies, [A] we were born and raised
[D] Fighting for survival, in [E] a disloyal maze
[E] We found our escape in [A] music so loud
[D] It drowned out the chaos, [E] of the heartless crowd

(Chorus)
[E] We’re the children of the [A] concrete skies
[D] Born to fight, born to [E] rise
[E] Not loyal to the century, [A] that forgot us
[D] We’re Disloyal Century, [E] we’re rebellious.

(Verse 2)
[E] We screamed out our pain, [A] into the noise
[D] We found our voice, [E] amidst the boys
[E] The guitars rumbled, [A] the drums beat hard,
[D] Lyrics like knives, [E] leaving the world scarred

(Chorus)
[E] We’re the children of the [A] concrete skies
[D] Born to fight, born to [E] rise
[E] Not loyal to the century, [A] that forgot us
[D] We’re Disloyal Century, [E] we’re rebellious.

Fan Testimonial:
“My name is Amy Thompson. Disloyal Century is my favorite band because their music speaks to me on a deep, personal level. The raw emotion and the gritty realism in their songs resonate with my own experiences. Their music has been a source of comfort and catharsis for me in difficult times. I feel seen and understood when I listen to their songs, and that’s something I haven’t found with any other band.”
