Backstory:
Born from the industrial heartland of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Firm Expectation is a group of four friends who found solace and purpose in music amidst the city’s steel and smoke. The band members – John “The Hammer” McGiveny on guitar, Tim “The Anvil” O’Rourke on drums, Dave “The Furnace” Malone on bass, and “Smokin’” Sam Harper on lead vocals – met in high school, bonding over shared dreams and a common sense of rebellion against the bleak, monotonous life that seemed destined for them. They began practicing in each other’s basements, the unmistakable hum of their raw, passionate music echoing through the narrow streets of their neighborhood, breathing life and hope into the otherwise dreary town.
Their big break came during one of the town’s annual steel mill festivals, where they put up a performance that left everyone in awe. Their unique sound, a blend of rock and blues with a grit that could only come from the steel city, won them a local recording contract. Firm Expectation hasn’t looked back since, hitting the road and earning a dedicated following across the country.

Song Title:
“Steel & Smoke”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
G Em C D
Born in a town of steel and smoke,
Drowned in the noise, we learned to cope,
Life was tough, and hope was lean,
But in our hearts, a dream unseen.
(Chorus)
C G D Em
Steel & Smoke, our battle cry,
In this town, we live, we die.
With our music, we break free,
Steel & Smoke, our destiny.
(Verse 2)
G Em C D
We played our songs amidst the grime,
Our rhythm strong, in perfect time.
In the heat, and under stars,
We found our soul, amongst the scars.
(Chorus)
C G D Em
Steel & Smoke, our anthem rings,
In our heart, the melody clings.
From the ashes, we arise,
Steel & Smoke, our truth, our lies.
(Bridge)
Am Em D C
In the fire, we were forged,
With our music, we have coursed.
Steel & Smoke, we stand tall,
With our dreams, we have it all.
(Chorus)
C G D Em
Steel & Smoke, we will survive,
In our music, we’ll always thrive.
In the echoes of our song,
Steel & Smoke, we belong.
