Backstory:
Self-Reliant Color emerged from the vibrant music scene of Melbourne, Australia in early 2010. The band consists of lifelong friends, siblings Kate and Mark Ashton on vocals and guitar respectively, their childhood neighbor Jake Richmond on bass, and high school mate Fiona Clarke on drums. They started jamming in their parents’ garages, playing at local pubs and cafes, and soon became a local sensation. Their knack for blending expressive lyrics with catchy melodies earned them a strong local fan base and later led to their discovery by a major record label.

“Vivid Silhouettes”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse)
Am (Em) G D
Waking up to a palette of dreams,
Am (Em) G D
In a world that’s more than it seems.
Am (Em) G D
Through the waves, beneath the sun’s golden beams,
Am (Em) G D
We’re painting our own vivid silhouettes it seems.
(Chorus)
C (Em) G D
Oh, we are the self-reliant color,
C (Em) G D
Breaking free, beyond the dolor.
C (Em) G D
We are the hues in the desert of white,
C (Em) G D
Vivid silhouettes dancing in the moonlight.
(Verse)
Am (Em) G D
Through the violet valleys and the crimson skies,
Am (Em) G D
We trace our stories, let our spirits rise.
Am (Em) G D
Watching the world through technicolor eyes,
Am (Em) G D
We’re creating our own vibrant ties.
(Chorus)
C (Em) G D
Oh, we are the self-reliant color,
C (Em) G D
Unchained souls, like no other.
C (Em) G D
We are the tints in the canvas of night,
C (Em) G D
Vivid silhouettes in the soft twilight.
Fan Testimonial:
Meet Sarah Thompson, Self-Reliant Color’s ardent fan from their early garage days. “I fell in love with their music at a small gig in our local cafe. They were so raw and real, weaving stories with their music, and that really resonated with me. I started following them to every show, watching them evolve and grow. Their song ‘Vivid Silhouettes’ always reminds me to embrace my unique colors and dance in my own rhythm. Self-Reliant Color is my favorite band, not only because their music speaks to my soul, but also because they’ve shown me that it’s okay to be your own vibrant, self-reliant color in this monochrome world.”
