Sardonic Subsidy

1. Sardonic Subsidy was formed in the gritty underbelly of New York City in 2009, founded by four disillusioned finance industry dropouts. The band’s four members – lead vocalist and bassist Thomas ‘TJ’ Jefferson, guitarist Bradley ‘Brad’ Stinson, drummer Samuel ‘Sammy’ Maddox, and synth/keyboard player Megan ‘Meg’ Peterson – found their common ground in their shared disillusionment with the corporate world and their shared love for music. They initially started jamming in their basements and garages, playing at small local gigs, gradually developing a cult following with their hard-hitting lyrics and ingenious chord progressions.

They gained massive popularity after their breakout performance at the 2011 Brooklyn Music Festival. Known for their rebellious ethos, witty sarcasm, and edgy sound, Sardonic Subsidy has since released three albums and continues to tour globally, winning hearts with their raw energy and authentic performances.

4. Full song lyrics:

Verse 1:
Walking down Wall Street, faces looking grim,
Ties choking dreams out, chances looking slim.
Black coffee mornings, cold pizza nights,
In the shadow of skyscrapers, lost all rights.

Chorus:
We’re the corporate clowns, stuck in this town,
Lost in the numbers, slowly going down.
Trading our dreams for a couple of bucks,
We’re the corporate clowns, and we’re out of luck.

Verse 2:
The boss is always yelling, the deadlines always near,
We’re all just hamsters running, driven by fear.
The boardroom’s a battlefield, we’re losing the fight,
We’re all just corporate clowns, caught in the light.

Chorus:
We’re the corporate clowns, stuck in this town,
Lost in the numbers, slowly going down.
Trading our dreams for a couple of bucks,
We’re the corporate clowns, and we’re out of luck.

Bridge:
In the concrete jungle, we’ve lost our way,
Can’t hear our hearts over the money’s sway.
We’ve traded in our dreams, for the bright city lights,
Now we’re nothing but corporate clowns, in endless nights.

Chorus:
We’re the corporate clowns, stuck in this town,
Lost in the numbers, slowly going down.
Trading our dreams for a couple of bucks,
We’re the corporate clowns, and we’re out of luck.

5. Chord progression:
The chord progression for “Corporate Clowns” is a classic punk progression with a minor twist: Em – G – D – A. The emphasis is on distorted guitars, punchy bass lines and driving drums, with sequenced synth adding an undercurrent of brooding atmosphere.
