Shameful Owner

Backstory:
Shameful Owner was formed in the winter of 2005 in a small town in Ohio when high school friends, lead vocalist/guitarist Sam Dalton, bassist Andy Carmichael, and drummer Matt Laurence discovered their shared passion for music. The trio started off performing at local venues, covering songs from a variety of rock bands that influenced them, and soon developed their unique sound while writing their original material.

Sam’s thought-provoking lyrics matched with Andy’s grooving bass and Matt’s hard-hitting drums quickly captured the local music scene’s attention. Their first EP, “Lost in the Echo,” was released in 2007, with songs revolving around the theme of navigating through the trials and tribulations of their youth. This record helped to establish their identity and gave them the momentum to move forward, creating more music that resonated with their growing audience.

“Cost of Freedom”

Verse 1:
C Em Am G
A tainted youth, where dreams were sold,

A freedom lost, a tale untold.
C Em Am G
The city lights, they called my name,
C Em Am G
But all I found was the cost of fame.

I’m the Shameful Owner of a lonely heart,

Lost in the echoes of the night so dark.
Dm Am
The price of freedom is a heavy load,

Bearing the scars of the stories untold.

Verse 2:
C Em Am G
Underneath the veil of riches,
C Em Am G
Lies the truth, full of stitches.
C Em Am G
Caged by chains of silver and gold,
C Em Am G
A youthful soul, prematurely old.

The roads, they twist and they turn,
Am G F G
Lessons bitter, lessons learned.

(Chorus)

“My name is Jennifer, and I’m a die-hard fan of Shameful Owner. I first heard their song ‘Cost of Freedom’ at a local show, and I was touched by their raw emotion and expressive lyrics. Their music speaks to the heart, and it’s as if they’re telling your life story. There’s just something about their sound that offers a comforting sense of familiarity. They are not just a band to me, but a beacon of hope that makes me feel understood and less alone in my struggles. Shameful Owner is, and will always be, my favorite band.”
