Backstory:
General Lecture is a band of five childhood friends who grew up in the heart of New Orleans. They kicked off their first public performance at a small community fair that sparked their love for music. The band members – Max (Lead Vocals), Jerry (Bass Guitarist), Liam (Pianist), Ryan (Drummer), and Clara (Violinist) – were all students at the same high school. They were known as the “music geeks” for their love for jamming in the music room during lunch breaks. Their chemistry was undeniable, so when they graduated, they decided to pursue their passion for music together and formed what is now known as General Lecture.
The name “General Lecture” was conceived from the countless lectures they received from their principal regarding their frequent “jamming” habits during school hours. The name was an ironic way of appreciating the support they received from their school, turning the scoldings into something positive and making it a part of their identity.

“I’ve been a fan of General Lecture since their first public performance at our local community fair. Their unique blend of indie folk, combined with their raw and honest lyrics, always takes me on a journey. It’s like they’ve captured the essence of youth and put it into music. What I admire most about them is their authenticity; they’re not just creating music, they’re telling stories. They make us, their fans, feel seen and heard, and that’s why General Lecture will always be my favorite band.”
