Backstory:
Jealous Volunteer started from a small garage in Columbus, Ohio, in the fall of 2009. Childhood friends, Marley Miller (lead vocals, guitar) and Nick ‘Fender’ Brixton (bass, backup vocals), found their shared passion for music could be more than just a hobby. They soon recruited a local drummer, Zack ‘Sticks’ Anderson, and keyboardist, Emily ‘Keys’ Barker, to complete the lineup. The band began playing at local bars, quickly gaining a reputation for their electrifying performances and raw, emotional sound.
The name Jealous Volunteer came from an inside joke within the band. Marley once volunteered to help at a local charity event, and Nick joked that he was only doing it to impress a girl that Fender had a crush on, hence the ‘jealous’ part. The name stuck, and it became a symbol of their friendship and camaraderie.
Genre:
Jealous Volunteer falls under the genre of alternative rock, but they aren’t afraid to experiment with elements of punk, folk, and indie.
