Sparse Self

Backstory:

Sparse Self is a band that originated from the heart of New York City, where its four members met at a random jam session in Manhattan’s underground music scene. The group consists of lead vocalist and guitarist, Oliver “Ollie” St. James, dynamic drummer, Max “Mad Max” Donovan, bassist and backing vocalist, Jake “Jazzhands” Cohen, and keyboardist, Lily “Lilypad” Peterson. They each brought a unique sound to the table, blending their different musical backgrounds and creating an innovative sonic experience that would soon be known as Sparse Self.

Their journey began in 2015 when they decided to rent a small studio space and began to experiment with their sound. It was during these late-night music sessions where the group’s chemistry grew, and their unique sound was born. Through trials and tribulations, band disagreements, and finding their rhythm, Sparse Self managed to create a musical identity that resonates with their audience and sets them apart from others.

Title:

“Dance with Shadows”

Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[C] Standing on the edge of twilight, [G] my thoughts are a misty haze,
[Am] Walking through the corridors of time, [Em] where memories often fade.
[F] In the mirror of my mind, [C] I see a figure so unclear,
[G] It’s my Sparse Self, [Am] dancing with shadows, [Em] the echoes I still hear.

(Chorus)
[F] Dance with shadows, [C] in the silent night,
[G] Embrace the echoes, [Am] beneath the moonlight.
[F] Sparse Self, [C] in the mirror’s face,
[G] Dancing with shadows, [Am] lost in time and space.

(Verse 2)
[C] In the chambers of forgotten dreams, [G] where silence speaks in rhymes,
[Am] Sparse Self dances with shadows, [Em] lost in the hands of time.
[F] Reflections of a past, [C] fading into the night,
[G] I’m dancing with my shadows, [Am] under the pale moonlight.

(Chorus)
[F] Dance with shadows, [C] in the silent night,
[G] Embrace the echoes, [Am] beneath the moonlight.
[F] Sparse Self, [C] in the mirror’s face,
[G] Dancing with shadows, [Am] lost in time and space.

Favorite Fan:

Our favorite fan is Lucy Thompson. Lucy discovered Sparse Self during a challenging period of her life. In her own words, “Sparse Self’s music has a unique way of reaching deep into your soul and evoking emotions you didn’t even know you had. Their melodies and lyrics have a beautiful melancholy feel that resonates with my experiences. They’ve become my favorite band because their music feels like home, reminding me that it’s okay to feel, to be lost, and to dance with my own shadows. They’ve provided comfort and solace during my toughest times, and for that, I am forever grateful.”
