Backstory:
Raised in the suburbs of New York City, the four members of Formal Money found common ground in the basement of their local library, where they spent countless afternoons discussing literature, politics, and music. They quickly discovered their shared love for vintage rock ‘n roll and rhythm and blues. Inspired by the greats of these genres, they picked up instruments and began jamming, and soon, Formal Money was born. Their unique fusion of intellectual musings and ground-shaking rhythms made them a hit at local gigs, prompting them to take their music to a wider audience.
Genre:
Rock ‘n Roll / Rhythm and Blues
Title:
“Banker’s Blues”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Em
Johnny’s got his tie on, and he’s ready to go,
Am
Straight to the bank, where the money flows.
Em
Counting the cash, stacking the dough,
Am
But his heart aches for a beat and a tempo.
(Chorus)
C
He’s got the Banker’s Blues, got no time for a melody,
G
In a world of interest rates and treasury.
C
He dreams of guitars, and a stage in a dive,
G
Where he can let loose, feel alive.
(Verse 2)
Em
Paper stacks high as his dreams pile low,
Am
In his suit and tie, he’s part of the show.
Em
Wishes he could trade the briefcase for a drum,
Am
Beneath the stage lights, he’d come undone.
(Chorus)
C
With the Banker’s Blues, his heart yearns for a song,
G
In a world where he just doesn’t belong.
C
Yearns for the rhythm, yearns for the drive,
G
In the world of rock ‘n roll, he’d thrive.
Favorite Fan:
Our favorite fan is Emily Watson. She’s a 45-year-old bank teller who discovered our music at a small gig we played at a local dive bar. Music was her escape from the mundane, much like our song “Banker’s Blues”. She connects with our sound, our lyrics, and our story, which is her story too. She was even inspired to start her own band, naming it ‘Informal Currency.’ Emily supports us at every local show, and her enthusiasm is infectious. She says, “Formal Money is more than just a band to me, they’re a beacon, a reminder, that no matter where we are in life, we can still chase our dreams. Their music is my daily dose of freedom.”
