Sweaty Black

Backstory:

Emerging from the gritty scene of downtown Detroit in 2013, Sweaty Black was the brainchild of childhood friends and self-taught musicians, Marcus “Mars” Benson and Jimmy “Jazz” Bartlett. The pair had spent their formative years immersed in their city’s rich industrial, punk, and blues culture, regularly participating in informal jam sessions in the city’s underground music scene. After releasing a series of impromptu live recordings to the internet, they attracted the attention of an indie record label scout who saw the raw potential in their raw, unapologetic sound. With the addition of drummer Corey “C.C.” Cooper and bassist Sid “Strings” Stevens, Sweaty Black evolved from a duo into a dynamic, full-fledged quartet, ready to take the world by storm.

Post-Industrial Blues Rock

Title:

“Faded Shadows”

Full Song Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Am – F – C – G
(Am) Walking down this broken street, (F) can’t seem to find my way,
(C) Trying to outrun these faded shadows, (G) that haunt me every day.
(Am) I got holes in my shoes, (F) and a heart that’s torn in two,
(C) Sweating black under this midnight sun, (G) don’t know what else to do.

[Chorus]
F – G – Am – C
(F) So I’ll keep walking, (G) keep pushing through,
(Am) With these faded shadows, (C) and my thoughts of you.
(F) The city’s crying, (G) under a sky so blue,
(Am) Sweaty black, (C) that’s all I knew.

[Verse 2]
(Am) The echoes of my past, (F) ring out in empty halls,
(C) I’m just a whisper in the wind, (G) a phantom in these walls.
(Am) I got a soul that’s worn, (F) and a spirit that’s bruised,
(C) Sweating black under this moonlight, (G) feeling empty and used.

[Chorus]
(F) So I’ll keep walking, (G) keep pushing through,
(Am) With these faded shadows, (C) and my memories of you.
(F) The city’s weeping, (G) under a starlit view,
(Am) Sweaty black, (C) that’s all I knew.

Outro:
Am – F – C – G
(Am) Sweaty black, (F) under a midnight sun,
(C) Faded shadows, (G) our journey’s just begun.

Fan Testimonial:

Name: Evan “Evi” Richards

“I’ve been a fan of Sweaty Black since the beginning. Their music speaks to the gritty, raw, and real experiences of life. ‘Faded Shadows’ is my anthem. It’s melancholic, yet hopeful, much like our lives. Their post-industrial blues rock sound is unlike anything out there right now. It’s nostalgic yet futuristic, a perfect blend of the past and the future. Sweaty Black isn’t just a band to me, they’re the soundtrack of my life.”
