Backstory:
Conceptualized in the heartland of Spokane, Washington, Average Criticism started its journey amidst the thrumming undercurrent of the city’s burgeoning indie music scene. College friends Brad McKnight (lead vocals), Colin Fox (guitar), Jeremy Davis (bass), and Sam Gibson (drums), all shared a profound love for music and an irreverent sense of humor. Their music was born out of countless jam sessions in their dorm rooms and garage, the band’s unique sound eventually coalescing into a distinctive blend of their diverse influences.
Their band’s name, Average Criticism, was inspired by their tradition of having friends and listeners rate their practice sessions. The band members joke that they used to get ‘average’ feedback or criticism from their peers, hence the name. Their journey from garage band to local sensations has been a rollercoaster, marked by memorable performances, late-night studio recordings, and the occasional hijinks that come with the territory.
