Backstory:

Untidy Receipt was formed in the bustling city of Austin, Texas, in the summer of 2009. The band’s members – lead vocalist and guitarist Marcus Sway, bassist Ricky Monroe, and drummer Jon Hargrove – met at a community college where they were pursuing their respective fields of study. One day, during a jam session they noticed a pile of crumpled receipts on the floor, a remnant of Marcus’s tendency to not clean up his pockets. Laughing at the sight, they decided to name their band Untidy Receipt, a symbolic nod to their chaotic lives and the messy adventures that brought them together.

In the initial stages, the band struggled to find their voice amongst the myriad of other local bands. After experimenting with various genres, they found their home in the world of indie folk-rock, creating a unique blend of acoustic and electronic sounds that resonated with audiences. Their breakthrough moment arrived when they were invited to play at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2012. Since then, Untidy Receipt has released three studio albums and toured extensively across the United States, making a name for themselves in the indie music scene.
