Backstory:
Formed in 2004, Circular Prisoner is an ensemble of creative misfits from the bohemian heart of Manchester, England. The band’s founders, lead singer/guitarist Alex Clooney and bassist Jacob “Jake” Stark, met while working at a local vinyl store, bonding over shared inspirations of progressive rock and a mutual disdain for monotony. Both being musicians, they decided to form a band that could push the boundaries of conventional rock music. Teaming up with classically trained drummer Ellie Baker and synth wizard Hugo Fernandez, Circular Prisoner came into existence.
The band emerged from the gritty underground club circuit, impressing listeners with their inventive blend of progressive rock, psychedelic soundscapes, and haunting lyrics. They quickly caught the attention of indie label, Lunar Rabbit Records, who signed them in 2006. Their debut album, ‘Escape from the Mundane’, was a critical success, establishing them as a unique voice in the British rock scene.
