Backstory:
Unwritten Statute came into existence in the summer of 2005, born out of the suburban boredom of three high-school friends: lead singer and guitarist Alex Thompson, bassist Jake Martin, and drummer Sarah Jackson. All three were deeply engrossed in their small-town DIY punk scene, and they found solace in creating music that expressed their rebellious nature and the yearning for something more. They started playing in garages and eventually worked their way up to local bars and clubs, developing a ferocious, energetic live show that would become their trademark.
In 2010, they added a new dimension to their sound when they brought in an old friend, keyboardist Lizzy Hernandez. Her synth hooks added a new layer of depth to their punk sound, pushing the boundaries of the genre. Despite their musical evolution, they’ve stayed true to their punk roots, always prioritizing the raw, authentic emotion that defines their music.

Title:
“Suburban Rebel”
Full song lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[A] I was born in the heart of a quiet town,
[D] Trapped in a bubble, I was feeling down.
[E] Yearning for a life, outside this pattern,
[A] The noise in my head growing louder and harder.
(Chorus)
[D] I’m a suburban rebel with a cause,
[E] Breaking down all these invisible laws.
[A] We’re an unwritten statute, always on the run,
[D] Our song is loud, our fight is far from done.
(Verse 2)
[A] We play in the alleys, under the city lights,
[D] The sound of revolution echoes in the night.
[E] Our anthem resonates through the silent street,
[A] Drumming to the rhythm of our own heartbeat.
(Chorus)
[D] I’m a suburban rebel with a cause,
[E] Shattering the silence, without applause.
[A] We’re an unwritten statute, battling the sun,
[D] Our story’s unraveled, our journey just begun.
Favorite Fan’s Testimonial:
My name is Kevin, and I am beyond proud to call myself Unwritten Statute’s biggest fan. The raw, unfiltered emotion in their lyrics and the rebellious energy in their sound resonates with me on a level I’d never experienced with any other band. Their music gave a voice to my feelings of frustration and dissatisfaction with the monotony of suburban life. It inspired me to break free from the ordinary and pursue my dreams with passion and conviction, just like them. They are more than just a band to me; they’re a symbol of rebellion and a beacon of hope for all us suburban kids dreaming of something more.
