Backstory:
Hefty Pope is a band that came together in the coastal city of San Francisco in 2013. The four members – Jasper on vocals and guitar, Theo on the drums, Elena on the bass, and Aidan on the keyboard – were all music students at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Their bond formed over countless jam sessions in their cramped dorm rooms and in the bustling cafés down Lombard Street. Their shared love for psychedelic rock and an unconventional approach to songwriting led them to form Hefty Pope.
The name ‘Hefty Pope’ was derived from an inside joke about a muscular papal figure that one of them came up with during a late-night brainstorming session. The band name, just like their music, is meant to challenge conventional norms while simultaneously providing an intriguing, engaging experience for their listeners.

“Velvet Dreams”

(Verse 1)
Am G
Beneath the velvet sky,
Dm Am
I found a place to lie,

Underneath the starlight’s cry.

C G
In Velvet Dreams, we roam,

In the land that we call home,

Seeking answers in the tome,
G Am
Of love’s forgotten poem.
(Verse 2)
Am G
The moon’s silver rays,
Dm Am
Illuminate our secret ways,
Am G
In the depth of night’s embrace,
Dm Am
We find the truth in your face.

C G
In Velvet Dreams, we wander,
Am Em
Through paths of aching wonder,
F C
Unraveling the world asunder,
G Am
In a love as deep as thunder.

In spaces where stars collide,
F C
In the universe, we thrive,
G Am
In Velvet Dreams, we survive.

Testimonial:
“I’ve been a fan of Hefty Pope since their first gig at the Golden Gate Park. Their music transcends the boundaries of typical psychedelic rock, it feels like a journey through the cosmos. ‘Velvet Dreams’ is my all-time favorite. It’s like they’ve taken my emotions and turned them into lyrics and melodies. Hefty Pope’s music is therapeutic, addictive, and a total eargasm. I wouldn’t trade a live Hefty Pope concert for anything else.”
