Awkward Government

Backstory:

Awkward Government was formed in 2012 in the small coastal town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The band members — lead vocalist Alex Reynolds, guitarist Charlie Harris, bassist Sam Thompson, and drummer Jack O’Rourke — were high school friends who bonded over their shared love for music and their disdain for conventional societal norms and political systems. They turned their angst into music, creating thought-provoking and boundary-pushing songs that captured the hearts of thousands across the country. Take a look at their journey to stardom — it’s unconventional, unexpected, and entirely Awkward Government.

The band’s rise to fame was a slow burn. They started in small local venues before recording their first independent album in Alex’s mom’s basement. Their big break came from an unexpected source – a local politician accidentally shared one of their songs on social media. The song went viral overnight, turning Awkward Government into national sensations. From then on, they’ve been touring across the country, using their platform to promote positive change and push back against societal norms.

Title:

“No Ties, Just Lies”

Full song lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Cmaj Gmaj
All these faces, dressed in suit and tie
Amaj Emaj
They speak in whispers, beneath the city lights
Cmaj Gmaj
Government secrets, hidden in plain sight
Amaj Emaj
We’re all just puppets, in their twisted game of lies

[Chorus]
Dmaj Amaj
No ties, just lies, we’re living in a masquerade
Gmaj Emaj
The truth is out there, but it’s buried in a shallow grave
Dmaj Amaj
They watch us from their towers, while we struggle day by day
Gmaj Emaj
No ties, just lies, it’s time to break these chains away

[Verse 2]
Cmaj Gmaj
They feed us promises, a bitter sweet disguise
Amaj Emaj
We’re drowning in the silence, beneath their hollow cries
Cmaj Gmaj
It’s time to rise up, it’s time to realize
Amaj Emaj
That we’re more than just numbers, in their cold, calculating eyes

[Chorus]
