Backstory:
Scornful Flower was born out of the ashes of a high school rock band in Sacramento, California, in the summer of 2006. The band’s core members, lead vocalist and guitarist Laura Benson and bassist Alex Pierce, decided to continue their musical journey together after their high school band fell apart. The duo spent countless hours in Alex’s garage, experimenting with different sounds, writing lyrics, and dreaming big. Soon after, drummer Jack Martinez and keyboardist Kim Rhodes joined the band, and Scornful Flower began to bloom.
Scornful Flower’s early years were marked by struggles and rejections, but they kept playing and honing their craft. They gained recognition in the local music scene for their intense live performances and unique lyrics. The band’s breakthrough came in 2011 when they were signed by an indie record label. Their debut album, “Petal in the Storm,” was a critical success, catapulting them to national prominence.

Title:
“Thorns of Virtue”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1 – Am, D, G, Em)
Am D
In the shadow of the day, under the moon’s pale light
G Em
I found a scornful flower, a beauty so bright
Am D
Her petals were of velvet, her scent was so pure
G Em
But beneath her beauty, thorns of virtue were obscure
(Chorus – C, G, D, Em)
C G
Oh, the scornful flower, so innocent yet divine
D Em
Your thorns of virtue, the pain is mine
C G
Love’s bitter truth, hidden in your gentle sway
D Em
The Scornful flower, in the garden of dismay
(Verse 2 – Am, D, G, Em)
Am D
Lured by her allure, I reached out for a touch
G Em
The piercing thorns of virtue, they hurt so much
Am D
A lesson learned in pain, a love that’s bittersweet
G Em
The scornful flower, your deception so discreet
(Chorus – C, G, D, Em)
C G
Oh, the scornful flower, you’re a riddle in the night
D Em
Your thorns of virtue, the wounds are in sight
C G
In your enchanting mystery, my heart’s led astray
D Em
The scornful flower, in the garden of dismay
