Backstory

Strict Absence came into existence in the small town of Alice Springs, Australia in 2011, when four childhood friends found their calling in the world of music. Lead singer, Jacob ‘Jake’ McCabe, guitarist Harry ‘Hal’ Abernathy, bassist Scott ‘Scotty’ Lowther, and drummer Tom ‘Tommy’ O’Donnell were inseparable since kindergarten. Their shared love for music grew as they aged, leading to impromptu jam sessions in Jake’s garage, eventually forming the band, Strict Absence.

The band’s name sprung from their initial struggle to secure gigs, being perennially absent from local music scenes. Instead of succumbing to discouragement, they embraced the name Strict Absence as a symbol of their resilience. Their determination led to a breakthrough in 2013 when they were spotted by a talent scout at a battle-of-the-bands competition, resulting in their first record deal.
