Backstory:
The story of Rundown Safety started in the small town of Aberdeen, Scotland, where four high school friends shared the common affinity for music. Daniel “Danny” McCallum, the group’s vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter, first pitched the idea of forming a band, only half-jokingly, during a late-night study session. The idea was quickly taken to heart by his friends, bassist Sean “Mac” MacDonald, drummer Ewan Stewart, and keyboardist Alison “Ally” Campbell. They initially played small gigs in local pubs, earning a reputation for their unique sound and heartfelt lyrics. Their rise to prominence came after a chance encounter with a music producer who happened to hear their impromptu performance in one of the pubs.
Genre:
Rundown Safety’s music falls within the broad genre of Alternative Rock, but their distinctive sound also fuses elements of Post-Punk Revival, Indie Pop, and New Wave. The band is known for their complex lyrics that often explore themes of existentialism, love, and social issues, set against a backdrop of energetic rock rhythms and haunting keyboard melodies.
