Backstory:

Normal Defendant was formed in the small town of Bakersfield, California, in 2007. The band is comprised of childhood friends: Matt Hicks (vocals), Jason Lewis (guitar), Craig Martinez (bass), and Dean Stewart (drums). They bonded over their shared love for music during their high school years, playing at local garage gigs and school events. Their name, Normal Defendant, is a nod to their shared experience of feeling like outsiders, always defending their passion for music against the norm.

In 2010, after gaining a loyal local fan base, the band took the bold decision of moving to Los Angeles to expand their horizons. There, they played numerous gigs and eventually caught the attention of a record label executive who saw their potential. Normal Defendant’s rise has been steady, and they have been praised for their unique sound and the raw emotion they inject into their music.
