Backstory:
Illiterate Charity emerged from the hazy streets of San Francisco, a city that embraced the counterculture movement in the mid-1970s. Founding members, Stella ‘Fingers’ Hart and Max ‘Madcap’ Lomax, met in a dingy bookstore in the heart of the city. They shared an appreciation for the offbeat, an affinity for the unconventional, and a love for music that refused to be categorized. After a few jam sessions in Lomax’s garage, they knew they had something special. Stella’s soulful voice and haunting piano melodies combined with Madcap’s gritty guitar and introspective lyrics to form a sound as unique as their meeting place. They named their band ‘Illiterate Charity’ as a tribute to their love for literature and giving voice to the underserved and overlooked in society.
