Backstory:
Formed in 2012, Calculating Indication is a group of four mathematicians who decided to combine their love for numbers and music into one singular expression. The band members – Tom, Mason, Jeremy, and Alex – met at a mathematics conference in Chicago, where they discovered their shared interest in music. What started as an impromptu jam session after the conference rapidly evolved into a full-fledged band, inspired by the complexity and beauty of mathematical equations, which they’ve sought to translate into music.
Drawing from their years of rigorous academic training, Calculating Indication has developed a unique approach to their music that perfectly blends the abstract realm of mathematics with the emotional depth of art. They have since released three albums, each one reflecting their evolving understanding and interpretation of the intricate relationship between numbers, patterns, and melodies.

“Harmonic Sequences”
Full song lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Am F C G
Rhythms of numbers, in my mind,
Am F C G
Echoes of equations, hard to find,
Am F C G
Patterns in chaos, so well designed,
Am F C G
Harmonic sequences, intertwined.
(Chorus)
Dm G C Am
Calculating Indication,
Dm G C Am
Our melodic equation,
Dm G C Am
Infinite summation,
Dm G C Am
Harmonic celebration.
(Verse 2)
Am F C G
Infinite series, in a scale,
Am F C G
Converge and diverge, without fail,
Am F C G
In the chaos, we set sail,
Am F C G
In our music, math prevails.
(Chorus)
Dm G C Am
Calculating Indication,
Dm G C Am
Our melodic equation,
Dm G C Am
Infinite summation,
Dm G C Am
Harmonic celebration.

“Why I love Calculating Indication? Well, as a Math teacher and a music lover, this band perfectly epitomizes my two greatest passions. Their unique approach to composition, the way they weave mathematical concepts into their songs, it’s just fascinating. I’ve always believed that math and music are closely linked, and Calculating Indication is a testament to that. My favorite song, ‘Harmonic Sequences,’ is a masterpiece. It’s like a beautiful mathematical proof set to music. Every time I listen to it, I’m reminded of the innate beauty and complexity of both fields. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!”
