Backstory:
Prickly Smoke began in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, weaving together threads from the diverse music scene. This four-piece band formed in 2015, when lead singer and guitarist, Alex O’Connor, casually met bassist, Reggie Mills, in a local record store. Discovering they both had a shared love for music that pushed boundaries, they decided to form a band, recruiting drummer, Sarah “Riot” Riordan, and keyboardist, Leo Soto. They began playing gigs at local pubs and cafes, and their unique and eclectic sound quickly caught the attention of the alternative music scene.
Prickly Smoke’s music became a powerful means of expressing their views on social and political issues. Their lyrics are often filled with witty, biting social commentary, wrapped in a layer of catchy melodies and complex harmonies. Their path was not always easy; they faced criticism and backlash, but their raw authenticity and commitment to their craft helped them to build a fiercely loyal fan base.
Genre:
Alternative Rock with elements of Jazz and Punk.
Song Title:
“Urban Jungle”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1 – C G Am F progression)
In the heart of the city, where the neon lights glow,
We’re surrounded by concrete, but dreams continue to grow.
Through the cracks in the pavement, beneath the urban sky,
We’re the voice of the voiceless, asking the reasons why.
(Chorus – Am G F C progression)
In the urban jungle, where hearts can break or mend,
We’re the prickly smoke, a message we send.
In the urban jungle, where dreams can twist or bend,
We’re the prickly smoke, our spirit will not end.
(Verse 2 – C G Am F progression)
In the echo of sirens, in the whispers of the street,
We’re the rhythm of the rebels, we’re the steady beat.
In the depths of the shadows, where ‘hope’ is just a word,
We’re the burst of light, making sure we’re heard.
(Chorus – Am G F C progression)
In the urban jungle, where truths can hide or blend,
We’re the prickly smoke, a message we send.
In the urban jungle, where lies can weave or wend,
We’re the prickly smoke, our truth we will defend.
The band’s favorite fan’s name and testimonial:
Jane Addison: “I’ve been a fan of Prickly Smoke since their first gig at The Horseshoe. Their music speaks my language – it’s raw, it’s real, and it’s rebellious. They’re not just musicians; they’re poets, philosophers, and activists. Their song ‘Urban Jungle’ has become my anthem. The chorus always gives me chills and I find strength in its lyrics. Prickly Smoke is more than just a band for me – they are a source of inspiration and a reminder to keep fighting for what matters.”
