The Chubby Sake is a band that was formed in the culturally rich city of Kyoto, Japan, in 2013. The band members, Hiroshi “Chubby” Matsumoto, a former sumo wrestler, and Saki “Sake” Tanaka, a geisha turned rock star, met at a local pub and decided to unite their diverse backgrounds to create a unique sound. Their music is a fusion of traditional Japanese melodies and modern rock, which reflects their contrasting personalities and experiences. The band aim to challenge the status quo in the Japanese music industry and bring something fresh to the table with their unusual sound and compelling storytelling.

Favorite fan name is Yoshi Tanaka, a sushi chef who discovered the band at their first local pub gig. Yoshi says, “The unique blend of traditional Japanese and modern rock that Chubby Sake offers has become the soundtrack of my life. I play their songs in my sushi bar to create a lively and unique atmosphere. Their music, especially ‘Rolling Tides and Rising Suns’, reminds me of the beauty of our culture and the strength of our people.
