Backstory:
Unwelcome Dress was formed in the heart of Austin’s underground music scene in 2011. The band’s founding members, singer-songwriter Gabe Sullivan and drummer Marissa “Riz” Rutherford, were both disenchanted with the mainstream music industry and sought to create a space for more experimental and thought-provoking music. After recruiting bassist Mikey “Fingers” Franklin and lead guitarist Jenna “Jett” Stone, Unwelcome Dress was born. The band’s name comes from a shared experience the band members had in their pre-fame days, where they were unwelcome in many establishments due to their alternative style. They chose to claim this rejection as a representative symbol of their alternative, non-conforming sound.
