Authorized Freedom
The story
Authorized Freedom formed in the crumbling warehouse district of Detroit in 2018, when lead vocalist and guitarist Jamie Miles put up a battered flyer seeking “musicians who want to smash rules and build new ones.” Three days later, bassist Kia Washington and drummer Rob Salazar showed up at Jamie’s makeshift studio, armed with DIY spirit and a love for raw, unfiltered sound. Their chemistry was instant, and by sunrise, they had written their first song.
Bound together by a passion for rebel anthems and sharp social commentary, Authorized Freedom honed their sound at underground venues and activist rallies. Their lyrics, often laced with dark humor, tackle themes of surveillance, autonomy, and modern rebellion. Soon, their gritty energy and anthemic choruses earned them a cult following, and bootleg recordings of their live shows began spreading across the internet.
Post-punk revival with elements of garage rock and indie grit.
