Backstory:
Automatic Failure wasn’t your average garage band of teenagers trying to make it big. This eclectic group of misfits was formed during their senior year at a high school in Seattle, Washington in 2010. The band members: lead vocalist Jeremy “Jem” Scott, guitarist Casey “Red” Donovan, bassist Marlon “Mars” Hargrove, drummer Simon “Sim” Welsh, and keyboardist Lily “Lil” Chen, were all labeled as outsiders in their school due to their eccentric interests and refusal to submit to mainstream norms. Their love for music and feeling of being the underdogs brought them together, and thus, Automatic Failure was born.
The name “Automatic Failure” was chosen as a rebellious statement against the societal norms and expectations to live a ‘typical’ successful life. They had all felt like they’d been labeled as failures because they didn’t fit the mold. So they embraced their “automatic failure” status, turning it into their strength with the power of music.
