The Delightful Defendant came into existence during a rather serendipitous encounter in the spring of 2005. All four members met at a local courthouse, each of them present for different, minor legal infractions. After a grueling morning of legal proceedings, they found solace in a shared appreciation for music. Feeling inspired by their odd meeting place, they decided to form a band right there in the courthouse lobby, naming it ‘Delightful Defendant.’

They started out by playing small gigs at local bars and cafes in their hometown of Austin, Texas; it was during these early performances that they developed their unique sound.
